About the Captain

I grew up in West Michigan fishing Trout, Salmon, Steelhead and most warm water species. Graduated from Western Michigan University in 2006 with a degree in Business Sales and Marketing and was President of the Fishing club and headed up the collegiate Steelhead tournament. Started guiding in AK the summer of 2007 at the Goodnews River Lodge. Guide for Steelhead, Salmon and trout primarily on the Muskegon, Pere Marquette and White rivers in West Michigan during the fall and spring. When I'm not in AK or MI floating the river, I'm working the flats of the lower Florida Keys chasing around Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish working as an independent guide. I'm happy as long as I'm on the water somewhere!

Along with being able to see the fish, make the cast and fighting it to the boat there are other aspects of flats fishing that are important for success. It's a team sport and being able to take direction, communicate with the guide and understand.

I've been fishing as long as I can remember. It started with bobbers and worms at my cottage in West Michigan and now is a full time obsession, addiction and way of life. I was born and raised on a Fruit Farm in the small country town of Kent City Michigan, Graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Sales and Business Marketing. While attending WMU I was president of the fishing club and organized a bi-annual Collegiate Steelhead Tournament which helped fuel my addiction to fishing. Throughout the later years of high school and all through college I spent the majority of my free time perfecting my skills of fly fishing for Steelhead, Salmon and Trout on the rivers of MI. My saltwater experience started on Florida's west coast during family vacations and continued into spring breaks in college to the Florida Keys. After graduating with a Business degree I decided to put the suit and tie on hold and follow my passion of fly fishing throughout the county. My curiosity and quest for big fish on fly led me to Alaska and the Florida Keys where I could fill in the Michigan off seasons and begin building a year round professional fishing career. Now days I spend Dec-June in the Florida Keys hunting the flats for Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Sharks and Cudas. Fly up to the Goodnews River Lodge in Alaska in July and August fishing for all five Pacific Salmon, Dolly Vardon, Rainbows and Grayling. I return to the home waters of western Michigan and guide primarily the Muskegon, White and Pere Marquette Rivers for Salmon, Trout and Steelhead. It wasn't that I originally planned or wanted to be a full time guide and travel around the country like a nomadic fish crazed gypsy, but somehow it just happen and I love it. There isn't much I enjoy more than being on the water and helping anglers fulfill there fishing dreams.

While experiencing many premier fishing destinations, there is nothing quite like sight fishing warm shallow Keys flats to fish that pull extra hard and put your gear, ability and wits to the ultimate test.

I have an enthusiastic, patient, high energy guiding style and will go the extra mile for my anglers. I enjoy working with kids and am willing to customize trips for special requests. I believe in building my business through quality customer experiences and look forward to fishing with my anglers for many years to come!
